Ruth-In the Field Of Grace

Key Scripture: Ruth 1:16 (KJV)  And Ruth said, Intreat me not to leave thee, or to return from following after thee: for whither thou goest, I will go; and where thou lodgest, I will lodge: thy people shall be my people, and thy God my God:

SUMMARY

Ruth a beautiful character in the Bible tells us a glorious story of commitment and love. This book illustrates  how her life was changed, as she was committed to the God of Israel. God started writing the chapters of His blessing upon her life. God’s blessing rests on our commitment. She had a tragic start to her marriage ,yet God who noticed her commitment to His word brought a significant change in her life. In chapter two of Ruth we see her entering into the field of grace.

SERMON POINTS

Principles to Dwell in the Field of Grace:

1) Right Passion:

Ruth 2:2(KJV) And Ruth the Moabitess said unto Naomi, Let me now go to the field, and glean ears of corn after him in whose sight I shall find grace. And she said unto her, Go, my daughter.

Ruth was passionate about her family and she wasn’t ready to give up. Though she was a stranger in the land of Judah, she didn’t let it hinder her passion to go out. She was determined to do something new for her and her family.

Ruth teaches us a principle of passion in staying committed to the Lord. As Christians we should never be comfortable with the mundane things of the world but always initiate a passion to do something new for the Lord. Initiate to rise today and go to the field to glean and surely the Lord will spark favor and kindness into our lives.

2) Right Place:

Ruth 2:3(KJV) And she went, and came, and gleaned in the field after the reapers: and her hap was to light on a part of the field belonging unto Boaz, who was of the kindred of Elimelech.

As Ruth had the right passion the Lord directed her steps to the right field of Naomi’s kinsman, Boaz. In our Christian faith there are no coincidences or probabilities as we are under the sovereign plan of God. Therefore, understand that when we have the right passion for the Lord, the right place of grace will come to us and when He puts it all together in the field of Boaz, we know that we are right place.

1 Corinthians 3:9 (KJV) For we are labourers together with God: ye are God’s husbandry, ye are God’s building.

We are all laborers in God’s farmland; the right place of the Mighty One of Israel. As we toil and sow seed it shall also bear much fruit because we are at the right place to find His provision and grace.

3) Right Person:

Ruth 2:4- 7 (KJV) And, behold, Boaz came from Bethlehem, and said unto the reapers, The Lord be with you. And they answered him, The Lord bless thee. Then said Boaz unto his servant that was set over the reapers, Whose damsel is this? And the servant that was set over the reapers answered and said, It is the Moabitish damsel that came back with Naomi out of the country of Moab: And she said, I pray you, let me glean and gather after the reapers among the sheaves: so she came, and hath continued even from the morning until now, that she tarried a little in the house.

Ruth was a stranger in the field of Boaz and it was not a coincidence that Boaz came to the field that day, but was a beautiful plan laid out by God. Through the story of Ruth, we know that when we are committed with the right passion for the Lord, He will initiate right Boaz’s in our life who would have favor upon us.

4) Right protection:

Ruth 2:9 (KJV)Let thine eyes be on the field that they do reap, and go thou after them: have I not charged the young men that they shall not touch thee? and when thou art athirst, go unto the vessels, and drink of that which the young men have drawn.

In the field of Boaz, Ruth found protection. Similarly, when we are in the field of God’s grace, the Lord sets His protection over His people. The word of God says in Luke10:18,19(KJV)And he said unto them, I beheld Satan as lightning fall from heaven. Behold, I give unto you power to tread on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy: and nothing shall by any means hurt you.

God has angelic protection over us and He has charged His angels to take charge over us in all our ways. Boaz is an image of our Lord Jesus who protects us from all dangers and harm.

5) Right Position:

Ruth 2:14 (KJV)And Boaz said unto her, At mealtime come thou hither, and eat of the bread, and dip thy morsel in the vinegar. And she sat beside the reapers: and he reached her parched corn, and she did eat, and was sufficed, and left.

As Boaz invites Ruth ‘a stranger’ to dine with him ,she is positioned rightly to eat with him. Similarly, we were all foreigners in the things of God but Jesus in all His mercy and kindness called us to give us rest and feed us bread. As we accepted the invitation we are now rightly positioned with Him being given His spirit to call ‘Abba Father.’

Ephesians 2:13 (KJV)But now in Christ Jesus ye who sometimes were far off are made nigh by the blood of Christ.

Jesus, in His unfailing love called us when we were far were off and washed us in His precious blood and made us sit in heavenly places with Him. Today Jesus wants to minister to us and give us the right position so that our hunger is satisfied and He can give us rest. So are we willing to hear the invitation and rightly position ourselves today?

6) Right Provision:

Ruth 2:15-17 (KJV) And when she was risen up to glean, Boaz commanded his young men, saying, Let her glean even among the sheaves, and reproach her not: And let fall also some of the handfuls of purpose for her, and leave them, that she may glean them, and rebuke her not. So she gleaned in the field until even, and beat out that she had gleaned: and it was about an ephah of barley.

Ruth didn’t go home empty-handed that day.  She could gather an ephah of barley, a good provision from God. We might be going through some famine in our lives but remember God is changing the time and season in our lives and there will be a provision in the field of God.

Remember Jesus is our good Boaz who is able to do exceedingly abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that works in us. Therefore, trust in Jesus and He will provide for us!

7) Right Praise:

Ruth 2:20 (KJV) And Naomi said unto her daughter in law, Blessed be he of the Lord, who hath not left off his kindness to the living and to the dead. And Naomi said unto her, The man is near of kin unto us, one of our next kinsmen.

When we receive a good tiding, we need to give Him the right praise. When Naomi saw Ruth, she praised the Lord God of Heaven. Naomi not only praised and worshiped God but also acknowledged His kindness upon her family. As Christians we need to live out a lifestyle of thanksgiving and praise, being vibrant Christians to thank God for the things He has done and for the things yet to come. Let our lives be filled with a rightful praise unto God.

CONCLUSION.

Ruth was committed and God led her to the field of Grace. She was passionate and devoted to her commitments and God wrote a beautiful story of blessing into her life. God laid out a plan and purpose for her life to find the right place, the right person who would protect, position, provide for her and she reflected a great testimony of God’s goodness in her life for people to praise and worship her God. Therefore, let us all take commitments to learn and embrace what Ruth embraced and let God be our good Boaz to lead, protect and help us through it all. May our lives reflect the goodness and faithfulness of God. We will become a testimony and people will praise God seeing the transformation He brings.
