In the Name of Jesus!

Key Scripture: Philippians 2:9,10 (KJV)  Wherefore God also hath highly exalted him, and given him a name which is above every name:That at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of things in heaven, and things in earth, and things under the earth;

SUMMARY

There is power in the name of Jesus,  when we concede to the power of His holy name our lives and situations change and we are never the same again! Though the name of Jesus is the sweetest and the most power name yet it is approachable, accessible and available to everyone. However, the greatest tragedy today is the count on how many of us thirst for His name. Therefore, let’s us pull ourselves away from a ‘spectator mode’ to being a ‘participant’ in the extension of His kingdom to magnify and glorify His name today.

SERMON POINTS

The Name of Jesus.

2 Chronicles 15:7 (KJV)    Be ye strong therefore, and let not your hands be weak: for your work shall be rewarded.

The name Jesus originates from the Latin form of Greek  name Yesous which represents Hebrew bible name Yeshua- our God saves.

We can be rest assured that at the mention of His beautiful name ‘Jesus Christ’ can save us from the darkest pit of our sin, therefore, let us strive in knowing His precious name and learn  what the Bible asks us do in His Name.

Acclamation in the Name of Jesus:

1) Believe in His Name.

John 1:12 (KJV)  But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name:

The Bible clearly tells us that we need to believe in His Name and in the person of Jesus; as we do that we gain the power to become sons of God. However, we can either be just believers having  distant view of God or get closer to Him as His true sons and daughters.

2 Corinthians 6:17-18 (KJV)   Wherefore come out from among them, and be ye separate, saith the Lord, and touch not the unclean thing; and I will receive you.And will be a Father unto you, and ye shall be my sons and daughters, saith the Lord Almighty

As we identify ourselves to be His children we must also separate from every unclean temptation of the world, the customs and traditions that is not of God.We should never compromise on God’s word and as we stick to His name, the word of God says that He will receive us and will be a Father unto us.

2) Call on His Name.

Acts 2:21 (KJV)   And it shall come to pass, that whosoever shall call on the name of the Lord shall be saved

Its a blessed privilege to call out on His name. God  created us to have fellowship with Him and He expects us to call out His name even in the most dangerous times so that we have an opportunity to be saved as we call on His name. Therefore, make it a priority to call on the name of Jesus and be saved today!

3) Gather in His Name.

Matthew 18:20 (KJV)  For where two or three are gathered together in my name, there am I in the midst of them.

The word of God promises that wherever two or more are gathered in His Name He would be present among our midst and when we acknowledge this we take decisions to come to His church and honor His name. Never make any excuses  for not being able to gather for prayer meetings, church gatherings or any ministry that demands our labor for the extension of His kingdom because God says that He will be present and we wouldn’t want to  miss the opportunity do we? Whatever we agree gathering together in His name, would be done by the Father in heaven.

4) Pray in His Name.

John 16:23,24 (KJV)  And in that day ye shall ask me nothing. Verily, verily, I say unto you, Whatsoever ye shall ask the Father in my name, he will give it you. Hitherto have ye asked nothing in my name: ask, and ye shall receive, that your joy may be full.

If our prayers were based on our righteousness or our worthiness nobody would have had the privilege to pray to God.  St. Paul says, “For all have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God.” Therefore, because of the redemptive power of God’s saving grace we have the privilege to pray to the Heavenly Father through Jesus Christ and as He continually intercedes for us to the Father our prayers are being answered. Therefore, let us take this moment of  great joy as we pray in the name of Jesus, as it is being answered in His name.

5) Minister healing in His Name.

Acts 3:6 (KJV)  Then Peter said, Silver and gold have I none; but such as I have give I thee: In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth rise up and walk.

James 5:14(KJV) Is any sick among you? let him call for the elders of the church; and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord:

There is healing in the name of Jesus! As St. Peter prayed in the name of Jesus, a man who was lame from his mother’s womb rose up and walked! Such is the power in the name of Jesus. Today there is no sickness, illness or diseases that is too difficult for the Lord to heal. As we proclaim healing in His name the lame shall walk, the blind will see again and the deaf will hear. Therefore, let us minister healing in the mighty name of Jesus .

6) Cast out demons in His Name.

 Mark 16:17 (KJV)  And these signs shall follow them that believe; In my name shall they cast out devils; they shall speak with new tongues;

In the book of Ephesians we read that our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, authorities, powers of the dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms. Therefore, it is imperative for us to take authority over demonic disturbances and cast them out of our lives.  Let our prayers, fellowship, spiritual songs vibrate in our homes to create an anointed atmosphere to drive out anything that is unholy in the eyes of the Lord. We disturb the momentum of the enemy and deactivate the powers of darkness by His name.

7) Confess in His Name.

Hebrews 13:15 (KJV) By him therefore let us offer the sacrifice of praise to God continually, that is, the fruit of our lips giving thanks to his name.

Let the name of Jesus be continually in our lips. Let us continually give thanks and praise to His holy name for the things He has done and for the things yet to some. Let our praises be a sweet smelling sacrifice unto His Holy name.

8) Do everything in His Name.

Colossians 3:17 (KJV)And whatsoever ye do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God and the Father by him.

There are always two ways of doing things; by word and by action. The Bible teaches us to evaluate everything and encourages us to do it all in His name. Every act ,thought or word should reverberate with the kingdom culture our Lord Jesus taught. We represent our Lord Jesus in our workplaces and communities. Bring glory to His name through it all.

9) Worship His Name.

Philippians 2:9-10(KJV) Therefore God also hath highly exalted him, and given him a name which is above every name:That at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of things in heaven, and things in earth, and things under the earth;

God has highly exalted the name of the Lord Jesus because He was obedient to the Father. Now the only name that is worthy to receive worship is the name of Jesus, to the glory of God the Father. When we worship the name of the Lord Jesus, our heavenly Father is glorified.

10) Life through His Name.

John 20:31 (KJV)But these are written, that ye might believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God; and that believing ye might have life through his name.

His name brings life in us. When we believe in the mighty name of Jesus and acknowledge His  holy name  we not only have peace, healing and freedom but we also have life in Him.  True life comes from the blessed name of Jesus.

CONCLUSION.

Jesus saith unto him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.” (John 14:6)

We have the great privilege of knowing God by His name. We should not take the name of the Lord in vain as mentioned in the law.(Exodus 20:7)

Taking the name of the Lord vain has an implication that we should not walk or live in a way unaware of the greatness of the name of the Lord. Our life should be given to the lifting up of His name.

Seven Blessings of a Righteous Life.

Key Scripture: Psalm 32:8 (KJV) I will instruct thee and teach thee in the way which thou shalt go: I will guide thee with mine eye.

SUMMARY

Christian life is a blessed and a victorious life until we walk in the counsel of God. However, today we often see people treading in dangerous paths of an ungodly and walking just in the opposite direction of what God has instructed us to. It all starts with a glimpse of an advertisement to the other disastrous episodes shown in the television. The technology today should never determine our Christian values rather the ultimate ‘say and approval’ must come from God’s word; ‘His counsel.’ Live a righteous life before God and He will bless us as He instructs, teaches and guide us with His own eyes!

SERMON POINTS

Psalm 1:1 (KJV) Blessed is the man that walketh not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor standeth in the way of sinners, nor sitteth in the seat of the scornful. But his delight is in the law of the Lord; and in his law doth he meditate day and night.

The book of Psalms starts with a beautiful psalm of a blessed man. A blessed man never walks in the counsel of the ungodly. He neither stands or sits in the way of the sinners but his only joy is in the Lord and His statutes. He takes delight in meditating the word of God day and night.

Let us glance at the life of a blessed man Abraham in the bible. God commanded Abraham to leave his country, relatives and father’s house behind and go to a land which God would show him. Abraham obeys God’s divine counsel and later we read in Genesis chapter 13 that Abraham went on prospering and increasing unlike Lot who chose to take greener pasture before the Lord destroyed Sodom and Gomorrah. Understand that eyes are deceiving; not everything we see flourishing and green will prosper. Later we read that because of the petitions of Abraham made unto the Lord, Lot is miraculously delivered. Our father Abraham is a great example who walked in the counsel of God and because he did God instructed, taught and guided Abraham and made him a father of many nation.

Psalm 84:4,5 (KJV) Blessed are they that dwell in thy house: they will be still praising thee. Selah. Blessed is the man whose strength is in thee; in whose heart are the ways of them.

In Hebrew, the word ‘Pesha’ means transgression. It is a disturbing fact that from the very rich to the most downtrodden sections of the society everyone wants to get rid of their transgressions and the count is great in number. We all want to be forgiven and loved. However, the bible says that blessed are those who praise and worship the Lord. As we praise the Lord and love Him, we are connected to the highways of heaven.

Another word for sin in Hebrew is ‘Hamartia.’ It is like an arrow when it misses the target and the mark is missed. Therefore, sin is missing the set guidelines of God. God has given us certain boundaries never cross it! Church is the body of Christ and we ought to come without any excuses. In Matthew 16:24 Jesus said unto his disciples, “If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow me.” God expects us to deny our flesh, take up the cross and follow Him, therefore be joyful don’t worry of getting rid of the transgressions because all our iniquities are already taken away by Jesus when He died on the cross. Now our strength will come from the Lord and as we dwell in His ways! Therefore, consider ourselves blessed and privileged men to be in His kingdom.

Who Are These Blessed Men?

Romans 4:5,6 (KJV) But to him that worketh not, but believeth on him that justifieth the ungodly, his faith is counted for righteousness. Even as David also describeth the blessedness of the man, unto whom God imputeth righteousness without works,

The Adamic sin was imputed in us and whatever we do in getting rid of the Adamic sin is ‘works.’ However, our works should not be compensated with attending the church, tithing or offering. These are supposed to be the basic etiquette of a believer. A blessed man believes in Jesus and understands that Jesus has cleansed us with His blood which is works. A blessed man continues to grow spiritually understanding that the imputed righteousness of God has washed away the imputed Adamic sin from its roots to live a blessed life of a righteous man.

How Should a Blessed Man Be?

Psalm 51:15-17 (KJV) O Lord, open thou my lips; and my mouth shall shew forth thy praise. For thou desirest not sacrifice; else would I give it: thou delightest not in burnt offering. The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit: a broken and a contrite heart, O God, thou wilt not despise.

A blessed man should never cease to praise God. He is always broken in spirit and is contrite in heart.

Seven Blessings of a Righteous Life:

The enemy tried to thwart the plans of God in the Garden of Eden but it was an utter dismay to the enemy when God sent His Son Jesus to redeem what was lost. It twisted ‘Avon’ the enemy’s course, because of the word came to us and we got saved! As we are saved there are seven blessings of a righteous life.

1) Healing

Psalm 32:3-5 (KJV) When I kept silence, my bones waxed old through my roaring all the day long. For day and night thy hand was heavy upon me: my moisture is turned into the drought of summer. Selah. I acknowledge my sin unto thee, and mine iniquity have I not hid. I said, I will confess my transgressions unto the Lord; and thou forgavest the iniquity of my sin. Selah.

There is a mechanism and functionality of how our Creator created us. If God has forgiven us of our sins, how much more should we forgive? The bible says that the cessation for our anger is sunset but if we pretend to cover it up our bones will be waxed. The more hurts inside will result in bad health. Therefore, reconcile quickly and pray about it and as we pray the healing comes in.

James 5:13-16 (KJV) Is any among you afflicted? let him pray. Is any merry? let him sing psalms. Is any sick among you? let him call for the elders of the church; and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord: And the prayer of faith shall save the sick, and the Lord shall raise him up; and if he have committed sins, they shall be forgiven him. Confess your faults one to another, and pray one for another, that ye may be healed. The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much.

God expects us to pray when we are afflicted and for those whose are hurting. As we repent and confess in praying for one another, the word says that God will heal our land because the prayer of a righteous man availeth much!

2) Praying Powerfully

Psalm 32:6 (KJV) For this shall every one that is godly pray unto thee in a time when thou mayest be found: surely in the floods of great waters they shall not come nigh unto him.

When we are righteous before God, our prayers are powerful and He hears it. Prayer is finding God in the midst of grave situation. It is like digging the well, the water comes up and floods the place but would not come near us because of His blessing. However, when we are rebellious He will not hear our prayer and we will dwell in the dry land. So be righteous before God!

3) Protection

Psalm 32:6-7 (KJV)  For this shall every one that is godly pray unto thee in a time when thou mayest be found: surely in the floods of great waters they shall not come nigh unto him.Thou art my hiding place; thou shalt preserve me from trouble; thou shalt compass me about with songs of deliverance.

Our God is the Rock of ages. Our God is in control of our mechanism. In Matthew 7:24,25 (KJV) Jesus said, “Everyone then who hears these words of mine and does them will be like a wise man who built his house on the rock. And the rain fell, and the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house, but it did not fall, because it had been founded on the rock.” When we built our houses on the foundation of truth of His word He will shield and protect us from every harm.

4) Song of Deliverance

Psalm 32:7 (KJV) Thou art my hiding place; thou shalt preserve me from trouble; thou shalt compass me about with songs of deliverance. Selah.

Singing determines a special code of conduct in our Christian faith. If in the bible, we read songs of deliverance then it is but obvious that the enemy also has songs of destruction. However, if we are a changed righteous man then it is known from the songs we sing.

Psalm 40:3 (KJV) He put a new song in my mouth,a song of praise to our God.
Many will see and fear,
and put their trust in the Lord.

The Psalmist says, that God will put a new song of praise into our mouth and many will see and will turn their hearts to God. Understand that when we sing a song of deliverance it could also win a soul for His kingdom! Therefore, be vigilant of what you sing and say.

Zephaniah 3:17 (KJV) The Lord thy God in the midst of thee is mighty; he will save, he will rejoice over thee with joy; he will rest in his love, he will joy over thee with singing.

Hebrews 2:12 (KJV) Saying, I will declare thy name unto my brethren, in the midst of the church will I sing praise unto thee. Jesus is singing praises over us

Our Christian life is a singing life and not a sinning life. The bible records that even God rejoices and sings over us. In Acts 16:25 And at midnight Paul and Silas prayed, and sang praises unto God: and the prisoners heard them. The bible says that as St. Paul and Silas started singing and praying to God the earth shook and later the prisoner and his household gets saved. This is the power of praising and praying to God! When we sing our bondages are broken and we are delivered.

5) Counsel of the Lord

Psalm 32:8 (KJV) I will instruct thee and teach thee in the way which thou shalt go: I will guide thee with mine eye.

Isaiah 30:21 (KJV) And thine ears shall hear a word behind thee, saying, This is the way, walk ye in it, when ye turn to the right hand, and when ye turn to the left.

Isaiah 50:4 (KJV) The Lord God hath given me the tongue of the learned, that I should know how to speak a word in season to him that is weary: he wakeneth morning by morning, he wakeneth mine ear to hear as the learned.

Isaiah 2:3 (KJV) And many people shall go and say, Come ye, and let us go up to the mountain of the Lord, to the house of the God of Jacob; and he will teach us of his ways, and we will walk in his paths: for out of Zion shall go forth the law, and the word of the Lord from Jerusalem.

Human beings like to get personal attention; they like being given the utmost importance. However, the good news is our God cares for us. The word of God says that He will instruct us, teach us and guide us with His own eyes.

As He teaches us His ways, no curses shall prevail. Our blessings come directly from His throne when we open our ears to hear His word. The church is a place from where His word is established and as we come to His house, the Lord shall teach us His ways and we will walk in His paths.

6) Understanding

Psalm 32:9 (KJV) Be ye not as the horse, or as the mule, which have no understanding: whose mouth must be held in with bit and bridle, lest they come near unto thee.

The horses are usually tied with a headgear to control them, because they lack understanding. Therefore, the word says, not to be like mules and horses who lack understanding.

1 Kings 3:9-11 (KJV) Give therefore thy servant an understanding heart to judge thy people, that I may discern between good and bad: for who is able to judge this thy so great a people? And the speech pleased the Lord, that Solomon had asked this thing. And God said unto him, because thou hast asked this thing, and hast not asked for thyself long life; neither hast asked riches for thyself, nor hast asked the life of thine enemies; but hast asked for thyself understanding to discern judgment;

Ephesians 5:17 (KJV) Wherefore be ye not unwise, but understanding what the will of the Lord is.

In the bible, we read a wonderful story of King Solomon who asked the Lord God for an understanding heart so that he would judge his people wisely. We further read that it greatly pleased God and because he asked for wisdom God granted it to him. King Solomon was the wisest king on earth. Therefore, ask for understanding from God, live a righteous life before Him and He will be pleased to grant it to us.

How Can We Have More Understanding?

Psalm 119:99 (KJV) I have more understanding than all my teachers: for thy testimonies are my meditation.

Understanding comes from God and His word. As we meditate the word of the Lord more we will become more understanding.

7) Rejoicing

Psalm 32:11 (KJV) Be glad in the Lord, and rejoice, ye righteous: and shout for joy, all ye that are upright in heart.

As we continue to live a righteous life, God will bless us with Joy. His presence in our life will never allow us to cease being joyful, it will be very hard to take a break from praising Him. Therefore, if we want to experience His joy in our life remove the cloth of unrighteousness, repent, ask the Lord to fill our hearts with Joy and He will do it!

CONCLUSION.

Live a righteous life before God, never tread into dangerous paths. Our God is a loving, kind and a merciful God who has set boundaries for us. It will be an act of foolishness who cross it and ignore Him but a wisdom and knowledge to those who know the calling of God and respect it! Once we know the calling of God, He will bless us with the healing, we will learn to pray powerfully, He will protect us, our mouths will be filled with songs of deliverance, He will counsel us, give us His understanding and we will never be the same again; it will be very hard to take a break from praising Him and rejoicing in His presence.

Therefore, let us come with an upright heart ask for salvation and it shall be freely given to us as a precious gift from the Master. So, are  you willing to ask the Son of God today?
