Prophetic Significance of the year 2018

Key Scripture:

Psalms 14:7 (KJV)  Oh that the salvation of Israel were come out of Zion! when the LORD bringeth back the captivity of his people, Jacob shall rejoice, and Israel shall be glad.

The prophetic significance for the year 2018 is a study with regard to the Word of God as to what this year holds for us, especially studying the number 18 from the Bible.

Number Study of what the year might hold for us:

Number study of what the number 18 signifies in the Bible is important for us to understand what the Lord intends to accomplish in this year and season of our lives. Our God is very interested in numbers. There are certain things that God plans to do and what He has planned for each day, He will accomplish it and we will see it happen.

Therefore it is very important to understand the times and seasons. Daniel knew that the time he lived in was the completion of the 70 years of captivity that Jeremiah prophesied about. This helped him to pray for God’s mercy.

Lets have a look at some of the significant records the Bible has when it comes to the number 18:-

  1. Shows a time of warfare:

Genesis 14:14 (KJV)   And when Abram heard that his brother was taken captive, he armed his trained servants, born in his own house, three hundred and eighteen, and pursued them unto Dan.

The Word of the Lord indicates that 18 signifies a time of spiritual warfare. The Lord requires us to be spiritually equipped in our prayer life. We have a warfare to go through to take back what the enemy has taken captive.

Psalms 144:1 (KJV)    Blessed be the Lord my strength which teacheth my hands to war, and my fingers to fight:

King David says that the Lord was his strength and that He trained his hands for war and taught his fingers to fight. This year the Lord will train us to fight the spiritual battles that would arise against our work, family and church; like how Abraham was able to bring back his nephew Lot from the enemies who had taken him captive.

  1. Shows freedom from oppressors:

Judges 3:13,14 (KJV)    And he gathered unto him the children of Ammon and Amalek, and went and smote Israel, and possessed the city of palm trees. So the children of Israel served Eglon the king of Moab eighteen years.

Judges 10:8 (KJV) And that year they vexed and oppressed the children of Israel: eighteen years, all the children of Israel that were on the other side Jordan in the land of the Amorites, which is in Gilead.

The people of Israel were smitten by Eglon, king of Moab and they were mistreated and oppressed for 18 years and the Lord raised up Ehud, through whom the Lord struck down the wicked king and gave His people deliverance. This year holds the promise of a deliverance from such powers and oppressors who have held on to our hard earned blessings in Jesus’ name! God will strengthen you in your times of weakness and give a great victory through you.

  1. Shows a time of success wherever you go:

2 Samuel 8: 6, 13-14 (KJV)   Then David put garrisons in Syria of Damascus: and the Syrians became servants to David, and brought gifts. And the Lord preserved David whithersoever he went.

And David gat him a name when he returned from smiting of the Syrians in the valley of salt, being eighteen thousand men.

And he put garrisons in Edom; throughout all Edom put he garrisons, and all they of Edom became David’s servants. And the Lord preserved David whithersoever he went.

The Lord gave King David famous victories and this one at the Valley of Salt was one such. The Word of God clearly tells us that the Lord gave David success wherever he went and with the Lord granting such success, David was able to put garrisons in the enemy’s camp. This year the Lord promises to give us victory wherever we go, He will help us tread down on our enemy and through God we will do valiantly and take up our spiritual victory.

Psalms 60:12 (KJV)   Through God we shall do valiantly: for he it is that shall tread down our enemies.

  1. Shows a time of change in regimes ( change in religious and political scenarios):

1 Kings 15:1 (KJV)  Now in the eighteenth year of king Jeroboam the son of Nebat reigned Abijam over Judah.

2 Kings 3:1 (KJV)  Now Jehoram the son of Ahab began to reign over Israel in Samaria the eighteenth year of Jehoshaphat king of Judah, and reigned twelve years.

This year the Lord will bring about a change in regimes especially in the religious and political front. After 18 years of evil reign, the Lord raised up a king according to His will.

  1. Shows a time of elevation of the church:

1 Kings 7:15 (KJV)   For he cast two pillars of brass, of eighteen cubits high apiece: and a line of twelve cubits did compass either of them about.

The Lord will elevate the position of the church and raise up the structure of spiritual possession over our lives. Pillars of the Church will be erected.

  1. Shows a time of revived fear of the Lord:

2 Kings 23:23 (KJV)   But in the eighteenth year of king Josiah, wherein this passover was holden to the Lord in Jerusalem.

At King Josiah’s time, the Book of the Law was found and the people turned back to the Lord with all their heart and the fear of the Lord was once again revived in everyone. In the same way the Lord ill bring back that reverence so lost in His ministers and people and we will learn things unknown from His word like never before. There will be great celebrations of the Lord and His word like never before in churches.

  1. Shows a time of Lord with us:

Ezekiel 48:35 (KJV)    It was round about eighteen thousand measures: and the name of the city from that day shall be, The Lord is there.

The Lord will be there, wherever we go, in us, our homes and offices, we will be able to feel he presence of God. The city, that heavenly city that Ezekiel sees in the vision is name Jehovah Shammah or the Lord is there and this may well indicate the coming of the Lord Jesus Christ and take us to that glorious City.

  1. Shows a time of repentance:

Luke 13:4,5 (KJV) Or those eighteen, upon whom the tower in Siloam fell, and slew them, think ye that they were sinners above all men that dwelt in Jerusalem? I tell you, Nay: but, except ye repent, ye shall all likewise perish.

Lord Jesus, while on this earth, makes a reference to this tower of Siloam that fell and killed 18 people who sinned. He calls the sinners, who heard the news as well as those who didn’t to repent. This year God desires that no one perishes because of their sin but repents from it.

  1. Shows a time of deliverance:

Luke 13:11 (KJV)   And, behold, there was a woman which had a spirit of infirmity eighteen years, and was bowed together, and could in no wise lift up herself.

This year is the year that God asks us to claim our deliverence from every spirit of infirmity that oppresses us. Like this woman who was bent and couldn’t lift herself up. She was bound up by a spirit of infirmity for 18 years and that day as she went to the temple that sabbath, Jesus showed up and He healed her. The Lord raises all of us no matter how we may be bound up, spiritually, physically or emotionally. This indeed is the year where we would be healed from many of our infirmities and the Lord shall deliver those who are bound by the enemy.

There are specific details in the Bible that shows how God wanted His people to be aware of the day, year, season in which they were living in and what they had to do in knowing that information.

God never makes mistakes and He works through times and seasons. Therefore, let us learn what 2018 holds for us in the plan of God, in accordance to His word and lets believe that what He has purposed will come to pass no matter what because our days our held in the hands of God.
