In the Name of Jesus!

Key Scripture: Philippians 2:9,10 (KJV)  Wherefore God also hath highly exalted him, and given him a name which is above every name:That at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of things in heaven, and things in earth, and things under the earth;

SUMMARY

There is power in the name of Jesus,  when we concede to the power of His holy name our lives and situations change and we are never the same again! Though the name of Jesus is the sweetest and the most power name yet it is approachable, accessible and available to everyone. However, the greatest tragedy today is the count on how many of us thirst for His name. Therefore, let’s us pull ourselves away from a ‘spectator mode’ to being a ‘participant’ in the extension of His kingdom to magnify and glorify His name today.

SERMON POINTS

The Name of Jesus.

2 Chronicles 15:7 (KJV)    Be ye strong therefore, and let not your hands be weak: for your work shall be rewarded.

The name Jesus originates from the Latin form of Greek  name Yesous which represents Hebrew bible name Yeshua- our God saves.

We can be rest assured that at the mention of His beautiful name ‘Jesus Christ’ can save us from the darkest pit of our sin, therefore, let us strive in knowing His precious name and learn  what the Bible asks us do in His Name.

Acclamation in the Name of Jesus:

1) Believe in His Name.

John 1:12 (KJV)  But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name:

The Bible clearly tells us that we need to believe in His Name and in the person of Jesus; as we do that we gain the power to become sons of God. However, we can either be just believers having  distant view of God or get closer to Him as His true sons and daughters.

2 Corinthians 6:17-18 (KJV)   Wherefore come out from among them, and be ye separate, saith the Lord, and touch not the unclean thing; and I will receive you.And will be a Father unto you, and ye shall be my sons and daughters, saith the Lord Almighty

As we identify ourselves to be His children we must also separate from every unclean temptation of the world, the customs and traditions that is not of God.We should never compromise on God’s word and as we stick to His name, the word of God says that He will receive us and will be a Father unto us.

2) Call on His Name.

Acts 2:21 (KJV)   And it shall come to pass, that whosoever shall call on the name of the Lord shall be saved

Its a blessed privilege to call out on His name. God  created us to have fellowship with Him and He expects us to call out His name even in the most dangerous times so that we have an opportunity to be saved as we call on His name. Therefore, make it a priority to call on the name of Jesus and be saved today!

3) Gather in His Name.

Matthew 18:20 (KJV)  For where two or three are gathered together in my name, there am I in the midst of them.

The word of God promises that wherever two or more are gathered in His Name He would be present among our midst and when we acknowledge this we take decisions to come to His church and honor His name. Never make any excuses  for not being able to gather for prayer meetings, church gatherings or any ministry that demands our labor for the extension of His kingdom because God says that He will be present and we wouldn’t want to  miss the opportunity do we? Whatever we agree gathering together in His name, would be done by the Father in heaven.

4) Pray in His Name.

John 16:23,24 (KJV)  And in that day ye shall ask me nothing. Verily, verily, I say unto you, Whatsoever ye shall ask the Father in my name, he will give it you. Hitherto have ye asked nothing in my name: ask, and ye shall receive, that your joy may be full.

If our prayers were based on our righteousness or our worthiness nobody would have had the privilege to pray to God.  St. Paul says, “For all have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God.” Therefore, because of the redemptive power of God’s saving grace we have the privilege to pray to the Heavenly Father through Jesus Christ and as He continually intercedes for us to the Father our prayers are being answered. Therefore, let us take this moment of  great joy as we pray in the name of Jesus, as it is being answered in His name.

5) Minister healing in His Name.

Acts 3:6 (KJV)  Then Peter said, Silver and gold have I none; but such as I have give I thee: In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth rise up and walk.

James 5:14(KJV) Is any sick among you? let him call for the elders of the church; and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord:

There is healing in the name of Jesus! As St. Peter prayed in the name of Jesus, a man who was lame from his mother’s womb rose up and walked! Such is the power in the name of Jesus. Today there is no sickness, illness or diseases that is too difficult for the Lord to heal. As we proclaim healing in His name the lame shall walk, the blind will see again and the deaf will hear. Therefore, let us minister healing in the mighty name of Jesus .

6) Cast out demons in His Name.

 Mark 16:17 (KJV)  And these signs shall follow them that believe; In my name shall they cast out devils; they shall speak with new tongues;

In the book of Ephesians we read that our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, authorities, powers of the dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms. Therefore, it is imperative for us to take authority over demonic disturbances and cast them out of our lives.  Let our prayers, fellowship, spiritual songs vibrate in our homes to create an anointed atmosphere to drive out anything that is unholy in the eyes of the Lord. We disturb the momentum of the enemy and deactivate the powers of darkness by His name.

7) Confess in His Name.

Hebrews 13:15 (KJV) By him therefore let us offer the sacrifice of praise to God continually, that is, the fruit of our lips giving thanks to his name.

Let the name of Jesus be continually in our lips. Let us continually give thanks and praise to His holy name for the things He has done and for the things yet to some. Let our praises be a sweet smelling sacrifice unto His Holy name.

8) Do everything in His Name.

Colossians 3:17 (KJV)And whatsoever ye do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God and the Father by him.

There are always two ways of doing things; by word and by action. The Bible teaches us to evaluate everything and encourages us to do it all in His name. Every act ,thought or word should reverberate with the kingdom culture our Lord Jesus taught. We represent our Lord Jesus in our workplaces and communities. Bring glory to His name through it all.

9) Worship His Name.

Philippians 2:9-10(KJV) Therefore God also hath highly exalted him, and given him a name which is above every name:That at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of things in heaven, and things in earth, and things under the earth;

God has highly exalted the name of the Lord Jesus because He was obedient to the Father. Now the only name that is worthy to receive worship is the name of Jesus, to the glory of God the Father. When we worship the name of the Lord Jesus, our heavenly Father is glorified.

10) Life through His Name.

John 20:31 (KJV)But these are written, that ye might believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God; and that believing ye might have life through his name.

His name brings life in us. When we believe in the mighty name of Jesus and acknowledge His  holy name  we not only have peace, healing and freedom but we also have life in Him.  True life comes from the blessed name of Jesus.

CONCLUSION.

Jesus saith unto him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.” (John 14:6)

We have the great privilege of knowing God by His name. We should not take the name of the Lord in vain as mentioned in the law.(Exodus 20:7)

Taking the name of the Lord vain has an implication that we should not walk or live in a way unaware of the greatness of the name of the Lord. Our life should be given to the lifting up of His name.

Jesus: The Name above all Names(Part I)

Key Scripture: Philippians 2:9 (KJV) Wherefore God also hath highly exalted him, and given him a name which is above every name:

SUMMARY

Anything and everything that exists around the world are addressed and referred by ‘names.’ A name brings to our minds  their character, personality, nature and being. Names also bring out our emotions and attitude towards the same. In the Bible, we read that whoever had a quest to know God and His name led them to a great blessing! This sermon introduces us to the power revealed in the Name of Jesus. Call out His name now and His name has the power to save, heal and restore us today!

SERMON POINTS

Genesis 5: 2 Male and female created he them; and blessed them, and called their name Adam, in the day when they were created.

As we look at the names of the people in the Bible we know that the first name was given by God. The first man Adam was created by God with a woman inside of him and was named by Him. God named people and sometimes renamed people based on the destiny they had. He had a special purpose for them.God renamed Abram to Abraham meaning ‘father of many nations’ and Sarai as Sarah meaning ‘princess’ because God had a purpose.

People however named their children on the basis of the situations they were in. For example we see ‘Jabez’ or ‘Ichabod’ according to their situations. So, whenever God has a divine purpose He would name and rename people.

God calls us by name!

Isaiah 43:1,2 (KJV) But now thus saith the Lord that created thee, O Jacob, and he that formed thee, O Israel, Fear not: for I have redeemed thee, I have called thee by thy name; thou art mine. When thou passest through the waters, I will be with thee; and through the rivers, they shall not overflow thee: when thou walkest through the fire, thou shalt not be burned; neither shall the flame kindle upon thee. For I am the Lord thy God, the Holy One of Israel, thy Saviour: I gave Egypt for thy ransom, Ethiopia and Seba for thee.

How wonderful is it to know in this context that God calls us by our name. If He calls us by name our destiny and future is blessed.

Whoever wanted to know the name(His character, person, nature) of the Lord were blessed.

Genesis 32:29(KJV) And Jacob asked him, and said, Tell me, I pray thee, thy name. And he said, Wherefore is it that thou dost ask after my name? And he blessed him there.

Jacob was fighting a divine fight. As he struggled with God all night long but there was something happening inside of him. Jacob wanted to know more about the mysterious character with whom he had been contending and because he asked His name, he was blessed there. From henceforth, God renamed him and called him Israel. Therefore, let us struggle more with God today so that He can bless us. For it is better for us to struggle with God than to struggle with man and know His name!

Exodus 3:13,14(KJV) And Moses said unto God, Behold, when I come unto the children of Israel, and shall say unto them, The God of your fathers hath sent me unto you; and they shall say to me, What is his name? what shall I say unto them? And God said unto Moses, I Am That I Am: and he said, Thus shalt thou say unto the children of Israel, I Am hath sent me unto you.

Moses the greatest of prophets in the Old Testament was sent by God to lead the Israelite’s. Moses like any other man was keen in knowing His name and was empowered to declare the name of the Great God by whom he was sent.

The Revelation of the Name:

Acts 9:5(KJV) And he said, Who art thou, Lord? And the Lord said, I am Jesus whom thou persecutest: it is hard for thee to kick against the pricks.

It was only in the New Testament that the long-anticipated answer of His name was revealed. Mary the virgin and her husband Joseph was directed by heavens to name the Son to be born in their house as “JESUS”(Yeshua-meaning salvation). Then Saul on the road to Damascus heard that blessed name of Jesus . God the Father bodily dwelt in Jesus Christ. St. Paul’s life was never the same again, he experienced the presence of God so closely and became the greatest apostle, writing the glorious spiritual experiences of his time.

The name that was sought for so many years was now unraveled to us. God revealed His Holy Name; Jesus the name that is exalted above every other name for us to experience, receive and live out His name!

Jesus: The Name

1) Represents His Person.

Luke 1:31-33 (KJV) And, behold, thou shalt conceive in thy womb, and bring forth a son, and shalt call his name Jesus. He shall be great, and shall be called the Son of the Highest: and the Lord God shall give unto him the throne of his father David: And he shall reign over the house of Jacob for ever; and of his kingdom there shall be no end.

Jesus the name of God revealed before His birth to Mary represents His person. He was the Son of the Highest God manifested in flesh unto whom the throne was given to rule. A Saviour appointed and sent in person to save humanity; the scripture says that He shall rule forever and that His kingdom shall have no end. So, let us welcome and accept the person of Jesus in our life today. When we say “JESUS” we experience glorious experiences as determined by heavens!

2) Represents His Character.

Matthew 1:21 (KJV) And she shall bring forth a son, and thou shalt call his name Jesus: for he shall save his people from their sins.

We might be surrounded with many names that bring anxiety, pain, fear and distress but blessed is the name of Jesus who being born two thousand years ago still brings in peace, love, joy and happiness in our lives. Jesus Christ was sent with an assignment that brought and still brings salvation from all our sins, healing from our sickness and a hope to an eternal life!

Acts 4:12 (KJV) Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved.

Nobody can pull Him down for He is highly exalted by God; there is no other name given to men under heaven other than the name of Jesus by which we can be saved.

3) Represents Our Destiny in Him.

Colossians 1:27,28 (KJV) To whom God would make known what is the riches of the glory of this mystery among the Gentiles; which is Christ in you, the hope of glory: Whom we preach, warning every man, and teaching every man in all wisdom; that we may present every man perfect in Christ Jesus:

Colossians 2:9, 10 says “For in him dwelleth all the fulness of the Godhead bodily. And ye are complete in him, which is the head of all principality and power:” In Jesus Christ we find the fulness of the God Head and only in Him are we complete.

God the Father bodily dwells in Jesus Christ. His name is greater and bigger than any other name. Do we have Jesus in our life? If we know Jesus than we are in the highest level, if not then in the lowest level. His name is the highest pursuit and serving in His name is the greatest privilege. There is no greater a knowledge one man could have than to experience and know that we are complete in Him. When the name Jesus comes  the fullness of God, the nature of God, the kindness of God and the love of God comes in to our life. So, are we ready to let Him in today?

CONCLUSION

With Jesus we are complete but without Him we are incomplete. If in the Old Testament, people were blessed by the pursuit of knowing His Name how much more will we be blessed to know and experience the Name Jesus! Therefore, come let us know Him in person  and His character as we become complete in Him and adore His Holy name.
