Healing Of The Mind

Key Scripture:

John 5:6 (KJV) When Jesus saw him lie, and knew that he had been now a long time in that case, he saith unto him, Wilt thou be made whole?

Mind

Proverbs 4:23 (KJV) “Keep thy heart with all diligence; for out of it are the issues of life.”

We have to understand that man is a tripartite being. He is made up of his body, his soul and his spirit. Just as he needs to be well physically and spiritually, a person needs to have a healthy mind. The mind is the seat of will and emotions of a person. Our Mind holds the key to our overall health.

A human being’s mind is like the latest AI cameras we see around. Your mind captures it all, everything that goes on around you, and stores it.

Your mind is also the seat of thoughts. It is often referred to as your heart, the thoughts and emotions you feel there, determine your actions and response.  That’s why the Bible asks us to take care of your heart with great diligence !

Mind Matters!

Mark 11:22-25 (KJV) “And Jesus answering saith unto them, Have faith in God. For verily I say unto you, That whosoever shall say unto this mountain, Be thou removed, and be thou cast into the sea; and shall not doubt in his heart, but shall believe that those things which he saith shall come to pass; he shall have whatsoever he saith. Therefore I say unto you, What things soever ye desire, when ye pray, believe that ye receive them, and ye shall have them. And when ye stand praying, forgive, if ye have ought against any: that your Father also which is in heaven may forgive you your trespasses.”

We have all experienced negative experiences from people, situations and may have gone through tough issues. The mind has the tendency to keep replaying and repeating these things in your head, long after the incident is past.

This can affect our mind badly. The Bible tells us a broken spirit dried up the bones (Proverbs 17:22). It’s effects are seen in one’s physical body as well. That’s why it is very important for you to receive healing in your mind.

When we talk about healing of the mind, it means dealing with our hurts, guilt and failures in a way that is scriptural. Hurts, guilt and failures are the primary causes that trouble the heart.

These usually cause  people to have hatred, self pity, envy and insecurity. God wants to heal us. We are called not to keep silent, but to command such thoughts to leave you in the name of Jesus, like how Jesus asks us to tell the mountain to fall in the sea and it shall be done. The mountain is your hurts, bitterness over the ways you were wronged, negative thoughts and incidents that trouble you. Whatever you ask in His name it shall be done for you. We are called to overcome it. Let’s discuss some of the ways you can receive healing in your mind.

Principles of Healing in the Mind

Some of the important ways we can experience healing in the mind are:

  • Surrender it all to Jesus

1 Peter 2:23 (KJV) Who, when he was reviled, reviled not again; when he suffered, he threatened not; but committed himself to him that judgeth righteously:

The first and important step to receive healing in your mind, is to surrender it all to Jesus. Every issue, hurts and the difficult words that you carry in your heart, you can give it to the Lord. You don’t have to carry it. Jesus Christ Himself when reviled, insulted did not resort to revenge but committed Himself to God. We have the power and privilege to do the same.

  • Seek the Truth

The mind specializes in whatever you train it to do. Instead of reliving the troubles and hurts you have gone through and living in defeat. You can set your heart to seek the truth, the lessons you learnt from such situations and how you can be aware the next time such challenges come your way. God wants us to respond right, He does not want us to be overcome by the emotions of rage, self pity, envy or self pity. Therefore find out where your fault was, where you gave the opportunity for such a turn of events, this will help us understand the right boundaries we are to draw for ourselves and respond within the framework of God’s word.

  • See the big picture

Genesis 50:19-21 (KJV) And Joseph said unto them, Fear not: for am I in the place of God?

But as for you, ye thought evil against me; but God meant it unto good, to bring to pass, as it is this day, to save much people alive.

We need to understand that setbacks and failures help us to see the road clearly. Joseph had a dream and those who hated him and his dream, did harm to him. During those years of struggle one thing that kept Joseph focussed was he saw the big picture God had in-store, rather than the evil that was intended towards him as his ultimatum.

We have to know that God who is in control, will bring out only good from the harm that was intended towards us. This should make you extend forgiveness to those who hurt you. That’s the place of healing for your mind!

  • Set your mind on the good things!

Philippians 4:8 (KJV) “Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things.”

The Bible teaches us that you can keep your mind healthy by setting your mind on good things. Rather than being anxious, complaining or finding faults, we can choose to think on all that is true, pure, lovely and those of virtue. This brings the peace of God that surpasses all understanding. It’s a choice you have and doing so heals you from within.

CONCLUSION.

The Bible tells us to not conform to the world but present ourselves to the Lord as a living sacrifice by renewing our minds (Romans 12:1). God does not want you to wallow and drown in your hurts, guilt or failures that keep you worried all the time. Today your mind may be a battlefield because all that you have gone through and like that man you could be stuck in the same place and problem for many years and after many attempts. The Lord Jesus stretches out His hand to heal you. May the truth of God’s set you free, even as you read these scriptures, let there be healing in your mind in Jesus’ name.
