SERMON POINTS

The Concept of mustard seed faith.

Matthew 17:20 (KJV)   And Jesus said unto them, Because of your unbelief: for verily I say unto you, If ye have faith as a grain of mustard seed, ye shall say unto this mountain, Remove hence to yonder place; and it shall remove; and nothing shall be impossible unto you.

The disciples who could not rebuke the spirit behind the son’s epileptic attack in Matthew 17. They came to the Lord Jesus in private and asked Him on why they could not cast the spirit out. Our Lord Jesus Christ, talks about a faith that can move mountains. The faith, Jesus describes is likened unto that of a mustard seed. To understand more of what He meant by that we should know what He spoke about Mustard Seed and the kingdom of God in Matthew 13. It is implied that when Jesus spoke about the Mustard seed Faith, the disciples could figure that out easily as He had already explained about it. Mustard seed is small in a way But the man took the insignificant small sized mustard seed. Faith starts small, but when we regard this faith as important-it changes the outlook.

Faith revealed!

Romans 1:17 (KJV) For therein is the righteousness of God revealed from faith to faith: as it is written, The just shall live by faith.

Faith is no faith unless it is revealed. The Old Testament, under the Law given by Moses couldn’t perfectly fulfil it. Jesus Christ was the only Jew who could fulfil it and through faith in Him we are made righteous.

Now it is this truth that we ought to know and stand for it. When you stand for this truth, your faith is revealed. This is when there is nothing that shall be impossible to you.

Romans 3:23 (KJV) Even the righteousness of God which is by faith of Jesus Christ unto all and upon all them that believe: for there is no difference:

Faith in Jesus Christ is the philosophy for our lifee. The disciples couldn’t understand how Jesus was able to do what they couldn’t and He points out the reason as their little faith.

Faith in Christ is not to what we profess with our mouths or the religious duties that we fulfil; Faith in Jesus fuels a passion and conviction in you that doesn’t compromise with this world.

Basics of faith.

1.Seed Faith

Matthew 13:31(KJV Another parable put he forth unto them, saying, The kingdom of heaven is like to a grain of mustard seed, which a man took, and sowed in his field:

This world we live in values the high and mighty things. However, our Lord talks about the Kingdom of God likening it to a mustard seed. So small, that it could be easily overlooked. The kingdom of God is likened unto grain of mustard seed and so is Faith. We should not ignore those small moments of faith that can just bless our lives. It might be while singing that chorus or meditating a verse. The faith moments can bless us and take us to the next level.

Never take your times of prayer and Bible reading for granted.

2. Sowed Faith

Jude 1:3 (KJV)   Beloved, when I gave all diligence to write unto you of the common salvation, it was needful for me to write unto you, and exhort you that ye should earnestly contend for the faith which was once delivered unto the saints.

This small precious seed of faith is to be sowed. We cannot lose it. Every time we learn from the word of God, each word is like a seed that has to be sowed. This is what determines our growth in Christ Jesus. Faith is not something that we can show on the outside, it is something that you earnestly contend for . That is when the Kingdom of heaven is manifested in our lives. Mustard seed Faith thus is faith that is sowed in our hearts by the Lord Jesus Christ.

3.Cultivated Faith

Hebrews 10:35 (KJV)   Cast not away therefore your confidence, which hath great recompence of reward..

The mustard grain grew up to be a tree. The seed that was inside the soil sprout out. Our faith that is sowed inside should be cultivated.Cultivated faith grows up strong. This happens when you speak and live your faith. We need to guard our faith in a compromising world. The saints of the Old testament like Abraham, Noah, etc. were able to stand for their faith and that was credited to them as their righteousness.  We need to pray for our faith to grow. There is great reward for your faith. Cultivate it to grow more than anything else in this world.

4.Stable Faith

James 1:6 (KJV)   But let him ask in faith, nothing wavering. For he that wavereth is like a wave of the sea driven with the wind and tossed.

This mustard seed faith though the smallest of all seeds grows into the greatest of all trees. As you cultivate this small mustard seed like faith, it grows to be a stable like a tree, unwavering in nature. A faith without compromises helps you stay rooted strong in the Lord, no matter what kind of life’s storms blows your way, you can be sure that you will still be standing after troubles pass. Let us cultivate our faith into a stable faith.

5.Shade-Giving faith

Acts 6:8 (KJV)   And Stephen, full of faith and power, did great wonders and miracles among the people.

People will come to you for your faith. Stepen was a man full of faith and power. We see that this faith in him set him apart. It drew people to him to witness the power of God at work in Him. as he was stoned, Saul who witnessed this was transformed into an apostle. That’s the kind of faith God expects us to showcase. True revelation of faith starts with your forgiveness qoutient. It brings people who are in need to be rescued to you.

Colossians 1:4 (KJV)   Since we heard of your faith in Christ Jesus, and of the love which ye have to all the saints,

Faith doesn’t work alone. Faith and love are like twins working within us by the power of the Lord Jesus Christ. This is what draws people to the love of Christ.  Let’s  introspect if the faith in us has been able to reach out to those in need around us.

6.Branching out Faith

2 Timothy 1:5 (KJV)   I am reminded of your sincere faith, which first lived in your grandmother Lois and in your mother Eunice and, I am persuaded, now lives in you also.

Like the Mustard seed plant that grew and became a strong tree and had branches, our mustard faith should have branches. This mustard seed faith when it is grows is not stagnant, it branches out, spreading with it the good news of the Kingdom of heaven. It spreads from person to person, from generation to generation. We need to be people of such faith that it branches out into the lives of those around us, leaving behind a rich heritage of faith.

CONCLUSION.

Mustard seed faith necessarily doesn’t mean a small faith. It essentially means faith that starts small but grows to be a stable ,branching out faith. Allow faith inside of you to grow. Your faith will speak out and you will be a blessing!
